Greek feast

September 4, 2008 Stephanie Leary 1 Comment

Sorry for being all spammy with the sidebar links rather than writing a real post. I’ve been super-busy with the beginning of school and have been feeling very bleh since before we left for vacation. Something’s wrong with my neck — or possibly my shoulder — and it’s radiating pain down my arm. I’ve gotten a couple of cortisone shots now. Alas, the one on Monday triggered a lovely reaction, and I ended up looking like a tomato all day Tuesday. I’ve also been falling asleep insanely early — which is a huge relief, actually, because I’ve been battling insomnia for the last month or so.

Getting an MRI Tuesday. We’ll see.

Anyway! Having finally located a store that sells Greek-style yogurt, I went nuts and made all the Greek recipes I’ve been saving up. Tonight we gorged ourselves on felafel and this chicken (minus the zucchini and skewers) with some tomato wedges and pitas. We dipped everything in the tzatziki linked in the felafel recipe. I can’t move. My kitchen smells great. And I have leftovers! WIN.

Now I just need to find a Greek dessert to make next time. These things sound good. Mmm. Orange.

The Greek dessert melomakarona are actually a Christmass sweet. In Greece people make it the weak before christmas. I remember going caroling in Greece as a kid and they used to give us these as a treat. They are delicious but somewhat difficult to get right.
