Stealing plots

April 4, 2007 Stephanie Leary 1 Comment

In last night’s ni90 update, I wrote, “I’m at 80k. I hate my book and I want it to die.”

Which was true… but I think I’ve just figured out how to fix it. I’m totally cribbing from Sports Night here, but that’s OK, no one will notice when I’m done. There are other bits of this book that started out as fanfic, but those serial numbers are long gone.

I really cannot plot my way out of a paper bag. This is why I watch certain shows obsessively, though: so I can internalize them and make it look like I know what I’m doing.

I just want to get to the end of this book so I can think about something else for a while.

Bah, don’t be too hard on yourself about “cribbing.” All plots have been written in one form or another at one point or another – there’s really a finite number of person/action/consequence combinations. It’s how we doll them up with style and detail and flavor that counts. smile

    And pleased ta meet you!
