Hero was interesting. The story is one of those things where you get several different versions and you’re not sure which one really occurred, but visually it’s gorgeous and I’ll probably buy it just to watch with the sound off. There were a number of people in the theater who evidently showed up expecting a typical Jet Li movie. This isn’t. The guy can act, and he can also get out of the way and let the story carry the movie.
The Princess Diaries 2 was a lot like cotton candy: fluffy, overpriced, amusing, far too sweet, and left no lasting impression at all. Which is exactly what I wanted out of it.
Jersey Girl was also interesting, and not at all what I expected. The trademark Kevin Smith humor is there in places, but most of the movie is just this really sweet relationship between a guy and his kid. I’d compare it to Chasing Amy before any of the other View Askew movies, and this one was much, much more serious. Except for the whole porn rental thing.
