Where do you want to go today?

August 20, 2003 Stephanie Leary

We got a new Windows machine at work today. I’m out of network drops in my office, and there’s no point putting in a new one, since we’re moving in two weeks. It’s just as well that this will be a standalone for a while; with my luck it’d catch the latest scourge before I could download all the Windows updates and whatnot that have been released since this thing rolled off the assembly line.

I plug it in, turn it on.

“Windows could not find an Internet connection.” No kidding.

“You can set up a network connection later…” OK.

“Would you like to register your copy of Windows over the Internet?” No.

“Would you like to sign up with .NET services over the Internet?” Oh, for fuck’s sake. No.

At least I didn’t have to install XP from scratch.
