Blackout

April 16, 2003 Stephanie Leary

Apologies for the total lack of posting yesterday. I was on my way back from a morning meeting when the power suddenly went out across the county. It stayed that way all afternoon, and let me say that people in this town do not know how to drive when all the traffic lights go dark. I live near an intersection that used to be fairly dangerous before the traffic light was installed, because people couldn’t keep track of whose turn it was when each street had a turn lane as well as a straight one. I had forgotten what it was like to play chicken with the other cars at that intersection until I had to do it again yesterday.

I had lots of new CDs to keep me company on the road—about which more later—and ended up at home on the porch with a good book. It was an unexpected afternoon off that I really needed, so to whoever caused the lights to go out—hey, everyone’s really pissed at you, but—cheers!
