Oh, here we go: Fascism Watch, November 27

A reminder to those now lining up at the corruption trough:

If it wasn’t already clear that Trump is setting himself up as an autocrat, I think today makes it pretty apparent that he’s at least making the attempt.

Trump / Transition Team & Cabinet Appointees / Voting

First, we have Trump on Twitter claiming that “millions of votes” were cast illegally. And yet, he won, and therefore any recounts would be a scam.

Yes, he could be just nuts… or he could be planning to refuse to leave office:

“The nightmare scenario in 2016 was that Trump would refuse to accept the outcome of the election when he was a mere candidate. Imagine if he were to refuse to accept the outcome of the next election once he is the president, and after he has appointed loyalists to control America’s security apparatus.”

And yeah, he could just be a loose cannon, or he could be using Twitter deliberately to disseminate disinformation.

Either way, his administration is planning to gut voting rights.

Also, what the fuck is going on in Montenegro? Two weeks ago neighboring Serbia foiled a Russian coup attempt there, and now there’s a joint Trump/Putin ad reading “Let’s make the world great again — together.” An attempt to reignite the Balkans and give Russia (and us?) an excuse to invade? Again?

Senators Warren and Cummings have asked the GAO to investigate Trump’s use of taxpayer funds for his obviously mixed transition team and business interests. Four weeks ago, Bush’s ethics laywer filed a Hatch Act complaint against Comey with the Offices of Special Counsel and Government Ethics.

Protests

The Sacred Stone camp at Standing Rock has replied to the Army Corps of Engineers’ eviction notice, saying the Army cannot evict them from their own land.

Thank you for these summaries! They have been so helpful — it’s hard to keep up with everything that’s going on, and I’m afraid people will become numb and accepting if we don’t work to keep in mind how extraordinary and terrifying Trump’s actions are. Keep up the good work!
