Friday giveaways: Coldtown, Countdown, Parasite

October 11, 2013 Stephanie Leary 4 Comments

IMG_0474Now that I’ve given away all the work-related books (for this week, anyway), I have fun stuff for you to win: advance reading copies of Holly Black’s The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, Alan Weisman’s Countdown, and Mira Grant’s Parasite.

Now, because I haven’t been feeling well, I’m a little late with the first two — they came out last month. Parasite is still a couple of weeks away, though.

ARCs, for those of you who aren’t familiar, are not the same as the final books; they’re advance copies, without the author’s final round of typo corrections and other small changes. They’re paperbacks of a somewhat lower quality than what you’d find in the bookstore (the paper is rougher, for example). The covers can be slightly different and will be filled with publishing-industry marketing copy. ARCs are sent to reviewers (and other authors) ahead of time in order to get reviews before the book comes out.

However, reviews are still hugely helpful after the book comes out. So! No matter which book you win, you must promise to review the book somewhere: Goodreads, Amazon, Powell’s, Barnes and Noble — take your pick. Deal?

To enter the giveaway, just leave a comment telling me which of the three books you want. You must pick one! The three winners will be chosen via random number generator at 9pm and notified by email.

I’ve never read any of these authors, but am game to try! I vote Parasite! I hang out on Goodreads a lot, so that’d be my most likely review location…

    Wheeeee!

Not a lot of entries on this one, so it’s yours! I’ll email you for the address.

I won yesterday, so not sure if I can play today. If I can enter, then my vote goes to The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. I enjoy this type of literature, but between work, kids, grandkid, etc…I find it hard to prioritize some downtime for reading. Agreeing to post a review (probably on B&N), will definitely get it bumped up the list :)

The second half of the book is devoted to development: learning to build WordPress themes and plugins.

This is the second, much-revised and updated edition of Beginning WordPress 3, with a more accurate title. Everything’s been updated for WordPress 3.6.
