Book reviews: Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

Nick & Norah

You get two reviews tonight because this one was short and I finished it long before I thought I would.

Holy crap, where were books like this when I was a teenager? This is one fun, funny book.

Nick is a bassist who’s recently been dumped. His ex is heading toward him on the arm of some other dude, so he turns to the girl next to him and asks her to be his girlfriend for the next five minutes.

Norah is the girl next to him. She really doesn’t want to talk to his ex, who’s sort of her friend, so she answers by grabbing Nick and kissing him.

The rest of the book takes place over the rest of the night, a sort of stream-of-consciousness narrative of their adventures. (Like Before Sunrise, except… not.) There’s a Yugo, her drunk best friend, more punk bands, nuns doing a strip tease of some sort, his ex, her ex, a jacket named Salvatore, Oreos, borscht, trains, Times Square, and a very sexy interlude that made me laugh so hard I dropped the book. More or less in that order.

I love it to pieces.

The second half of the book is devoted to development: learning to build WordPress themes and plugins.

This is the second, much-revised and updated edition of Beginning WordPress 3, with a more accurate title. Everything’s been updated for WordPress 3.6.
