Halfway or a third depending how you count: Ni90 Week #4 report

February 9, 2007 Stephanie Leary Leave a Comment

Sorry I haven’t talked about anything else lately. Not much else going on, except boring work crap I don’t want to air here.

So. The book. Added another 5955 this week, bringing the total for the challenge to 24,710 and the manuscript to just over 50K. On average that’s a little less than I had been doing every day, but I got through some really crunchy scenes this week, so I am not displeased. Well, maybe just a little. I did hit the 1/3 mark several days early and was going to take a day off to celebrate, but words attacked me anyway. That’s OK; I needed to store up enough overtime, as it were, to let me knock off completely during SxSW, and I’ve done that.

I’m starting to feel worn down, though, and I can’t quite tell if it’s because the pace is getting to me or because I’m coming down with the virus that’s going around town. Maybe both. For once I have a weekend agenda that’s manageable instead of insane, so I’m going to try to catch up on rest and see what happens.

Halfway there, by word count (assuming a 100K book); one-third of Ni90 down. Eight weeks to go. At some point near the end of that time frame, I will have a complete first draft. I haven’t quite wrapped my brain around that concept yet.

This is a book for professional web designers and developers who already know HTML and CSS, and want to learn to build sites with WordPress. The book begins with a detailed tour of the administration screens and settings, then digs into server-side topics like performance and security. The second half of the book is devoted to development: learning to build WordPress themes and plugins.

This is the second, much-revised and updated edition of Beginning WordPress 3, with a more accurate title. Everything’s been updated for WordPress 3.6.
