WordPress Consulting Services

I am a freelance consultant specializing in WordPress theme and plugin development, imports and migrations, and custom post/taxonomy implementations. I work primarily with universities, non-profits, and authors and other members of the publishing industry.

WordPress Themes

Flexible, accessible, with SEO built in. Want it responsive? I can do that…

University Writing Center site (2011), in desktop browser, iPhone, and iPadThis site (2008, made responsive in 2011), in desktop browser, iPhone, and iPad

WordPress Plugins

I can modify one of my existing WordPress plugins, or write you a custom one. See the list of unreleased plugins for a few examples of private plugin work.

Importing Sites to WordPress

I’ve written WordPress import plugins for HTML files, Delicious links, and Gallery2 photos. I’ve moved sites from Blogger, LiveJournal, Textpattern, Movable Type, Joomla, and Drupal into WordPress. I’ve spoken at a couple of WordCamps on the process of importing, how to write your own importer, and migrating single WordPress sites into multisite installations.

Whether you have a nasty database migration on your hands or you just need me to figure out the HTML Import settings for your site, give me a shout.

WordPress Troubleshooting and Maintenance

I’m available to fix or maintain your WordPress sites, including security upgrades and any necessary theme updates. Contact me for a quote.

WordPress for Web Developers (9781430258667)

This is a book for professional web designers and developers who already know HTML and CSS, and want to learn to build sites with WordPress. The book begins with a detailed tour of the administration screens and settings, then digs into server-side topics like performance and security. The second half of the book is devoted to development: learning to build WordPress themes and plugins.

This is the second, much-revised and updated edition of Beginning WordPress 3, with a more accurate title. Everything’s been updated for WordPress 3.6.
