Superquick movie reviews

September 27, 2004 Stephanie Leary

Sky Captain: Pretty. Wait, isn’t that a gaping plot ho—ooh, shiny. Whee!

Mean Girls: Kind of like Heathers, only not.

13 Going on 30: Awwwww.

Confession time: My 10-year-old niece made me watch 13 Going on 30 last week and I cried at the end.

Looking forward to the shiny wheees of Sky Captain.

isn’t it nice that Jennifer Garner can kick ass and still make a cutesy movie? ha! I thought it was cute, got it for Meg but apparently it was over her head because she went to play in her room after the first ten minutes and I found myself sitting there watching the whole thing.

    1) Sky Captain – Yea, very much an eye candy movie. However, it did nothing to pull me into the story. I knew what to expect going into it, and it was exactly that, just didn’t do anything for me.

    2) Mean Girls – Loved this one. Tina Fey and Tim Meadows were great. “That’s why her hair is so big, it’s full of secrets.”

    3) 13 Going on 30 – Better then I expected. Jennifer Garner plays a 13 year old amazingly well.

I had a nearly identical opinion of Sky Captain. Mean Girls was good, but the middle section was painful to watch. I’m avoiding 13 Going on 30. I did watch Ladykillers last night, though, and I’m very glad all I spent on it was two hours of my life. Bleh.

I loved 13 Going on 30. I may have cried a little at the end too. Even SCott liked that movie, and for him to giggle through a chick flick is something. ;) I still want to see Mean Girls.

You know me, I can’t abide a plot hole no matter how many shiny things appear on screen. Given a choice I’d prefer not only to see the strings but also the sticks the strings are tied to if I could get a tightly woven plot.
